Last wednesday, Huerco S. played a set in Antwerp for tu-mult (together with Talbot Wood). Luckily he stayed a day longer and I was able to invite him to the studio for a live guest mix. (probs to Talbot Wood for the connection!). On the tracklisting: Basic Channel, DFA, Rhythm & Sound etc. Big one !
Brooklyn based dj and producer Huerco S. (real name, Brian Leeds) made a visit to the urgent.fm studio on the 14th of november. Huerco S. who made himself noticed via 12inches & casettes (on labels like Future times and Opal Tapes) just released his debut album ‘Colonial Patterns’ on the Oneotrix Point Never label, Software recordings.
Sites like Pitchfork, JunoRecords, Resident Advisor all gave it positive reviews and stated him as one of the names to watch out for.
Or as Dazed Digital describes it, ‘his sound is that of his Kansas City home, and is one that’s very much of the mind, mired in a broth of tape hiss and vinyl crackle and loops that glimmer across its textured sonic layering; a computer signal mutates to echo a rhythmic groove, a decaying synth line surfaces and disappears just as quickly.’
