Ahead of friday’s Texture Party at White Cat (Ghent) …
… I asked Diego Herrera (aka Suzanne Kraft) to select 5 favourite Belgian tracks and add a small comment to it.
This sounded like a perfect and easy job for him cause he’s one of my favourite selectors around and a big inspiration the recent years with his divers radio shows for Dublab
(Things for life), Red Light Radio and other guest mixes for Public Possession, Holger, Krossfingers to his recent and amazing Dekmantel podcast .
A broad taste in styles that can also be heard in his productions, like the nu-disco release on Gerd Jansen’s Running Back label, his contribution to the Music for Autobahn release on Rush Hour, the more testosterone-driven Dude Energy release for Animals Dancing and last year’s lp on Jonny Nash’s Melody As Truth label, to name just a few.
Check also his exclusive guest mix for the radio show at the bottom of the page and some links to his productions.
But first things first, sit back and enjoy this fine Belgian selection.
1. Mittland och Leo: Sleepers
SK: “I was lucky to come across Mittland Och Leo’s album “Optimists” back in LA and was instantly sold 🙂 Another group who doesn’t disappoint —
both their solo ventures, Milan’s ‘C. Young’ project and ‘JJ Funhouse’, the label/studio Joke runs are also not to be missed.”
2. The Honeymoon Killers: Decollage
SK: “I’ve got quite a few favorites from these two, Aksak & Veronique, who kind of represent Crammed Discs for me…
But since I think this is the first track of theirs I heard I’ll pick this one :)”
3. Doc and Co: Hardcore Movies
SK: “I’m really about the “acapella” (includes drums) on this cheapo 12″, but unfortunately no one has uploaded that one so this “Bronx mix” will have to do…”
4. Luk Van Acker: Zanna
SK: “A classic in my mind. Acker’s atonal “harmony” only makes it a prettier song.”
5. Hiele: Kaneda
SK: “I feel privileged to have known Roman Hiele for quite some years now, and he never ceases to amaze me with what he comes up with.”
Radio mix
Next to this fine choice of belgian tracks I asked Diego also to make a radio mix.
The result? A perfect soundtrack for a hot late night drive and this one you need to hear from beginning till the end.
Coulld be also suitable to chill down after friday’s party.
